Try Virtual Building Logistics (not kidding)
There is actually a firm called (drum roll) Virtual Building Logistics (http://vblogistics.com/) who do exactly this. They start with CAD drawings and use tools to render them in 3D, and then use other tools to simulate mechanics and other aspects of using the space.

I know how to do this and I dread doing it with Excel. Does anyone have experience with using CAD models as the basis for environmental (thermal, power, sunlight, etc.) simulation? |
